Morocco is a year-round destination, but the right time depends on where you’re headed: the desert, the Atlas Mountains, the imperial cities and the Atlantic coast each have their own sweet spot. Here’s exactly when to go, month by month — with weather, crowds, prices and what to pack.
Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best overall — warm, clear, and ideal for the cities, mountains and desert together. Summer suits the Atlantic coast (the interior is very hot); winter is great for sunny city breaks and the desert by day, with cold nights and snow in the High Atlas.

Spring (March–May) — the best all-rounder
Arguably the finest time to visit. Days are warm but not scorching, the landscapes are green, and everything — the Marrakech medina, the Sahara at Merzouga and the High Atlas around Imlil — is comfortable at the same time. It’s popular, so book riads and desert trips ahead.
Summer (June–August) — head for the coast
Inland cities and the desert get very hot (often 38–42°C). This is the season to base yourself on the Atlantic: breezy Essaouira, the beaches of Agadir and the surf at Taghazout all stay pleasantly cool. If you do visit Marrakech in summer, choose a riad with a plunge pool and plan indoor middays.
Autumn (September–November) — warm and settled
The other ideal window. The summer heat eases, the light is golden, and the desert and mountains are perfect again. September and October are wonderful across the whole country; by late November, nights turn cool.
Winter (December–February) — sun, snow and quiet medinas
Mild, sunny days make winter a lovely time for the imperial cities and for the desert (warm by day, cold at night — pack layers). The High Atlas gets real snow, and you can even ski near Ifrane. It’s the quietest, cheapest season — outside the Christmas and New Year peak.

- Sahara Desert: spring and autumn are ideal; winter days are great but nights are cold; avoid high summer.
- High Atlas trekking: late spring to autumn; winter for snow with a guide.
- Atlantic coast & surf: late spring through autumn for the beach; the surf is best autumn–spring.
What to pack
Light, breathable layers year-round, plus something warmer for desert nights and winter evenings. Spring and autumn need a light jacket; summer calls for sun protection and a coast-ready layer; winter wants a proper coat for the evenings and the mountains.
