Plunging about 110 metres through a lush gorge, the Ouzoud Falls are Morocco’s most spectacular waterfalls — a tiered curtain of water, rainbows and greenery in the Middle Atlas, alive with wild Barbary macaques. An easy and unforgettable day trip from Marrakech.

Getting there & around
Ouzoud is a favourite escape from the city:
- From Marrakech — about 2.5–3 hours each way, near the town of Azilal in the Middle Atlas
- Tours & transfers — many day tours run daily; a private transfer gives you more time
- On foot — a shaded trail of steps and paths leads down to the base and back up the far side
What to do
- The viewpoints — take in the full tiered cascade from the top terraces, framed by olive groves and rainbows.
- Hike to the base — follow the path down to the pools for the falls’ full thundering scale.
- Spot wild macaques — Barbary monkeys roam the olive groves around the gorge.
- Boat ride — small rafts ferry visitors close to the cascade for the spray.
- Swim & relax — cool off in the base pools (warmer months) and enjoy the café terraces overlooking the falls.
When to go
Spring brings the fullest flow and the greenest gorge, while summer is warm and perfect for swimming (and busiest). The falls are beautiful year-round; arrive early for the best light and rainbows.
